New Renault Megane is no frills but Mega thrills
THE FACTS Renault Megane RS 250 Three-door coupe Price: £21,995 Engine: 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, 250bhp 0-62mph: 6.1sec Fuel consumption: 33.6mpg When I write the word Renault it always comes out Reanault.
Don't know why, it must be a brain or finger thing. Writing about hot Reanults is particularly annoying because they get called names like Reanault ReanaultSport Clio which doubles the amount of correcting that needs to be done.
Ever concerned about my personal wellbeing, the French have decided to call RenaultSport cars simply RS. So the new hot Megane is now the Megane RS 250. But there are much more interesting things to talk about than my finger's inability to find the letter N on a keyboard.
The Megane RS 250 for starters.
It's good to send things out with a bang and Renault did so in style with the last Megane hot hatch.
You'll remember we drove it earlier in the year - it was called the Megane R26.R and it was quite mental. No rear seats, a roll-cage, 225bhp, stiff suspension, go-faster stickers and a lot of attitude. Not surprisingly it's become a cult car in a very short time. It was so wild and crazy it took your mind off the fact that the old Megane was an odd-looking motor.
Now you'd think the Ford would do a Usain Bolt on the Renault and leave it for dead but no. Perhaps a racing driver who'd just been told the winning lottery and more »
