OFFBEAT: 'The Addams Family: A New Musical' casts a spell on audiences of all ages
Growing up, I remember my mother Peggy warning of doom anytime a bird would happen to hit a window of our house.
She would say it was a bad omen and a symbol that forewarned of back luck about to be upon us.
Thinking about it now, it sounds macabre, almost like something you might hear spouted from a member of the infamous Addams Family .
I think it's an example that there's a bit of The Addams Family in every family around the globe.
From the occasional odd habit to a bit of superstition, just enough to pique the curiosity of someone else.
Being a bit abnormal is normal and it's the same premise that makes "The Addams Family: A New Musical" so frighteningly funny.
This bound-for-New York Broadway stage creation officially opened Wednesday at the Ford Center for Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre in Chicago and it's one of the best performances I've enjoyed in a long time.
